In 2006, Phoenix Microelectronics set up a branch in Nanjing, specialized in the development of embedded software. The company acquired Beijing Oriencard Digital Technology, Ltd., building a production chain for a new generation of HD-SIM. Currently, Phoenix Microelectronics has over 200 employees, and it is an official member of China Semiconductor Industry Association and Beijing Semiconductor Industry Association.

Early 2007, the company launched the smart storage chip (SSC) which is a brand new smart storage control chip supporting multiple protocols and providing multiple controls. The operators may store various services for promotion in the chip which has strong management and calculation capacity. The existing cell phones can support the new services provided by SSC without any modification or a little modification.

The encapsulation of SSC is the same as the physical shape of the traditional SIM cards. The basic form of this product can be described as follows: SSC works with the baseband processor to form a new mobile communication terminal architecture which combines the traditional smart SIM card technology and super capacity flash storage technology, and encapsulates several chips together using new packaging technology. The product provides multiple communication and computer interfaces which are built inside the cell phone. It provides super-large storage capacity, new type of communication value-added applications, multimedia processing, information transfer, mobile games, internet navigation, DRM and other functions, and it can exchange data with computer or other digital terminal devices through the high speed interfaces.

SSC provides various solutions for the new generation of mobile storage products. In addition to the application in SIM/UIM, SSC can also be used in other smart mobile storage fields, and is a chip supporting the new generation of smart multimedia storage products. Currently, SSC is already in mass production.

Phoenix Microelectronics also developed the SLC (Smart Low-density chip) Application Specific IC. Based on the cost advantage of the traditional kilobyte level SIM, SLC integrates smart STK applications designed for megabyte level SIM, for examples, e-books, extra large phone book, colorful ring back tones, etc., which leads to relatively high performance-price ratio. The launch of this product made a major impact on the market. Its platformized system structure can expedite the business implementation speed for the operators and provide abundant new services which benefit the end users.

In 2007, the company successfully finished the second round of financing. On May 10th, as the leading investor of the second round financing, Intel announced the news of investing in Phoenix Microelectronics to the world. This investment laid firm foundation for the further development of Phoenix Microelectronics. Phoenix Microelectronics will use this fund to expand the existing business, recruit more talents, upgrade the R&D capacity and strengthen marketing efforts. Intel holds a favorable view on Phoenix Microelectronics and hopes to drive the further development of telecommunication field and the production chain with this investment.
